KMS Presents Innovative Solutions to the Unique Problems of Dairy Processing

Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) will launch several next-generation membrane products at AQUATECH 2011. The world’s leading exhibition for process, drinking and wastewater is set for 1-4 Nov. in Amsterdam.

The new PURON PSH1800 MBR product offers superior solids management and reduced energy and life-cycle costs with a 10 percent lower aeration requirement and a 10 percent greater surface area than competitive products, and up to a 25 percent capacity increase from previous PURON generations. The new module is one of highest packing density, smallest footprint MBR modules available in the marketplace. In addition to the PSH1800, KMS is offering the PSH300 and PSH600, both compatible with other commercial MBR systems.

KMS, a world-class developer and manufacturer of innovative membranes and membrane filtration systems, will display the TARGA II HF system and its other innovative water-treatment solutions at booth F07 at the conference, scheduled for September 25-28 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

"After an extensive evaluation of the major membrane systems available on the market, we selected PURON submerged MBR modules because of their energy efficient design, the smallest footprint requirements as well as KMS’ engineering support during the entire project phase,” says George Shen, chairman of the board at Pacific Water Treatment Engineering Co., Ltd., a leading engineering company in China selected by the municipality to design and construct the MBR system.

As part of a project to upgrade and expand the capacity of the existing facility, KMS RO elements will be installed in four trains with a 2.0 MGD capacity each, running at 80 percent recovery. These RO trains, along with three cartridge filter vessels and one clean-in-place system, will be designed and fabricated by AEREX Industries, based in Fort Pierce, Fla. The total plant capacity will be 8 MGD, serving a population of 90,000.

The new PURON PLUS MBR system will serve an apartment complex in Massachusetts and is designed to meet stringent surface discharge limits for biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, and total nitrogen. MBR technology combines biological wastewater treatment and membrane filtration into one unit process, producing a consistently high quality effluent in an extremely compact footprint.

Going forward, Singh will be responsible for KMS' full range of product research and development activities, including functional groups responsible for research and development, quality and reliability, and process engineering and design. Singh and his team will interact with the departments of engineering, manufacturing and sales, assisting in product commercialization and providing superior technical services to KMS customers.

The TARGA II HF system offers a cost-effective, safe, high-quality water solution for a variety of ultrafiltration applications, from drinking water to seawater pretreatment, industrial water treatment, and tertiary wastewater treatment. The membrane element features a robust PES membrane which, combined with optimized cartridge and rack design, results in one of the smallest footprint products on the market.

ACE11 is the American Water Works Association's 130th Annual Conference & Exposition. KMS will introduce the TARGA® II HF system and its other innovative water-treatment solutions at the conference, scheduled for June12-16 in Washington, D.C. The cornerstone of the TARGA HF system is intelligent process controls to handle variations in water quality and flow with minimal operator intervention, reduced chemical use, and less energy.

Wastetech is the International Exhibition for Waste Management, Recycling, and Environmental Technologies, happening May 31-June 3 in Moscow, Russia. The PURON PLUS MBR packaged system, featuring PURON membrane modules, is a pre-engineered skid-mounted packaged plant for wastewater applications that provides customers with a full scope of supply, from prescreening and biological treatment through to the final membrane clarification step.

The event, scheduled for May 2-5 in Berlin, hosts more than 34,000 visitors, including water management decision makers from government and industry, engineers, and scientists. KMS' PURON submerged modules are ideal for both industrial and municipal MBR systems. PURON submerged modules offer significantly lower lifecycle costs due to a single header design that provides better solids management in the module, braided fibers to reduce the risk of fiber breakage, and highly effective air scouring that virtually eliminates sludging.

The conference will be held in La Crosse, Wisconsin on April 13-14. This 11,000-attendee event presents the latest developments in food processing technologies. This International Dairy Forum will be held March 15-18 in Moscow, Russia. The MBR will be used to treat municipal wastewater, which will allow effluent to be reused for irrigation and conserve the region's scarce water resources. TAM Environmental Services from Cairo was assigned to build an onsite wastewater treatment plant that has a small footprint, is less visible, provides effluent water suitable for reuse, and is modular to accommodate future expansion. While other technologies were reviewed to meet the requirements, MBR was the most feasible solution.
