The KMS Family of Membranes Offers State-of-the-art Solutions for
Virtually Every Processing Problem
Crossflow membrane filtration is a pressure-driven separation process that Koch Membrane Systems has helped pioneer for the industrial, food, water, chemical, and biotechnology markets, as well as for those providing environmental protection. Since the early 1960's, KMS has been a leader in developing new membrane products and processes for liquid/liquid and liquid/solid separation.
Membranes serve as highly-engineered, physical barriers that permit the passage of materials only up to a certain size, shape or character. KMS offers membrane products in a variety of configurations, materials and sizes; each designed to meet specific application needs.
Separation Ranges
There are four main membrane separation processes currently employed for liquid/liquid and liquid/solid separation: microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO).
In addition to offering varying degrees of separation, membranes are available in a variety of configurations including: spiral wound, hollow fiber, tubular and flat sheet. Koch Membranes Systems offers a wide selection of industrial and municipal membranes and is uniquely capable of designing and manufacturing industrial and municipal membrane filtration systems.

KMS has always been an innovative leader in membrane separation technology, from the time that Fluid Systems Inc. first introduced the spiral wound, reverse osmosis membrane element in 1964 through the development and introduction of ABCOR® tubular ultrafiltration, ROMICON® hollow fiber cartridges in the early 1970's, and PURON® membrane bioreactors in the early 2000's.
ABCOR® tubular membrane products are typically employed in industrial applications that are characterized by feed streams with high solids concentration. These applications include oily wastewater treatment, juice clarification, degreaser recovery, and pulp and paper recovery. Tubular membranes with diameters of 1/4", 1/2" and 1" offer large open flow areas resulting in high plugging resistance. KMS manufactures tubular membrane products made of chemically resistant polymeric materials (such as PVDF). Examples of tubular products include Koch Membrane Systems' ground breaking 1" diameter tubular UF membrane (FEG™ membrane), 1" diameter multiple tube SUPER-G® membrane, 1/2" diameter multiple tube ULTRA-COR® membrane, 1/2" diameter multiple tube SUPER-COR® membrane and SelRO® NF membrane.
ROMICON® hollow fiber membranes are asymmetric, self supporting, backflushable membranes. They are available in either microfiltration or ultrafiltration ranges, in a variety of fiber diameters and materials. The hollow fiber geometry allows a high membrane surface area to be contained in compact modules providing high capacity while utilizing minimal space. KMS manufactures hollow fiber membrane products made of chemically resistant polymeric materials such as PVDF, Polysulfone and PAN. ROMICON® hollow fiber membranes are used in such diverse applications as juice clarification, potable water treatment and oily waste minimization.
FLUID SYSTEMS® spiral wound elements offer the outstanding membrane packing area at a low cost per square foot. Spiral wound membranes are available over the full filtration spectrum, with a variety of spacer sizes and materials of construction, designed to meet every customer need. Examples of KMS spiral wound membrane products include: TFC® Polyamide-Thin Film Composite RO, ROGA® Cellulose Acetate RO, ABCOR®-I Dairy UF and SelRO® NF membranes.
PURON® modules for membrane bioreactors consist of modules containing bundles of fibers fixed at their lower ends in a single header, with the fibers sealed at their upper ends. These modules are submerged into biological sludge and produce a high quality filtrate. This design greatly minimizes fouling and clogging, produces stable flux and consumes less energy than other submerged systems. The PURON® MBR technology is ideal for treating both municipal and industrial wastewater, and saves space because it has a much smaller footprint than conventional wastewater treatment equipment.
Products for Food, Dairy, or Beverage Applications
KMS offers a wide variety of sanitary products for every need in the food, dairy and beverage processing. With more than 35 years of membrane separation experience and unequalled industry knowledge, KMS products can offer long membrane life and high product yields.

Products for Specialty Applications
Spirals, HF and tubular membranes are used for the Specialty Applications market segment. KMS offers a broad product line, from pharmaceutical grade HF cartridges and spiral wound elements for high purity applications, to rugged spiral and tubular products for the chemical industry, including products with outstanding resistant properties to serve in the chemical and automotive industry.
KMS' product line includes the whole range of the separation, from RO to MF.
Industrial Water & Wastewater Products
Spiral wound and hollow fiber products have become the most commonly used membranes for industrial water applications such as boiler make-up water, brackish water treatment , microelectronics and pharmaceutical water applications. These membranes are available as UF, NF and RO. For industrial wastewater treatment, hollow fiber, membrane bioreactors, or tubular UF products are more commonly used as the first membrane separation range with spiral RO or NF used to polish the UF permeate for recycle. KMS meets every separation need.
