A Message from the President

A lot has changed in the world of membrane filtration since I joined the industry as a research engineer more than 20 years ago. Of course, the same can be said for most of our customers’ industries. The landscape of tomorrow is always evolving, and that is why Koch companies, including Koch Membrane Systems, apply a market-based approach to help create greater value. By immersing ourselves in the diverse markets we serve, our team strives to anticipate and prepare for future challenges instead of reacting to them.

Worldwide, the constant pursuit of improvement is inspiring more municipalities and industries to seek a wider range of filtration solutions. Whether it is lower-energy membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment or recovery of valuable products from waste streams, or precise filtration needs in the pharmaceutical and food sector, the demand for continuous investment in membrane technology is greater than ever before. Over my years of work in this industry, I have learned that innovation is a lot more than a researcher working in the lab. Within KMS, we are not only breaking the internal silos that exist between research, manufacturing, engineering and sales teams but we are also promoting an “Open Innovation” culture. With Open Innovation we collaborate with our customers to ensure that our membrane solutions are tailored to meet your needs. We recognize that our success is inextricably linked to yours.

We understand that technology and products are only one piece of the puzzle. To make KMS one of the easiest companies to work with, we have restructured ourselves to be nimbler while continuing to offer comprehensive membrane solutions. Because we have flattened our management structure, company leadership is closer to the needs of our client base, and decisions are made more quickly. With our breadth of product offerings and depth of technical expertise, we can provide comprehensive long-term support. Our process team can help you pilot test and select the best membrane product to fit your needs. Our project delivery and after-market service team will ensure seamless transition throughout different phases of the project.

Finally, I strongly believe that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of value that can be created with membrane filtration. In the spirit of Open Innovation, you are invited to contact me and our team directly if there’s anything we can do to improve our performance or product offerings. We are committed to earning the right to be your partner of choice for advanced membrane solutions, and I personally stand behind our products and services.

Together, we can create Filtration for a Better Future.

Sincerely,

Manny

Innovation through the years

KMS was first established in 1963 as ABCOR Inc., a company built on separation and purification technology developed by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When ABCOR added ultrafiltration membranes and systems in 1970, focus shifted entirely to membrane separation. Recognizing the commercial potential of these technologies from the beginning, minority owner Koch Engineering Company bought out the remaining shares of ABCOR in 1977, renaming the wholly owned subsidiary Koch Membrane Systems Inc. in 1981.

Since then, the company has flourished thanks in large part to the continuous development of superior filtration products and through the successful acquisition of companies like Romicon Inc. (1991), Fluid Systems Corporation (1998) and Puron AG (2004). With these companies came additional capabilities in commercial reverse osmosis and nanofiltration, desalination and submerged membrane bioreactor technology.

Today, we manufacture a range of membranes (UF, MF, RO, NF) and systems in a variety of configurations for use in the filtration and processing of drinking water, industrial and municipal wastewater, juice, gelatin, dairy, wine, pulp and paper. We provide solutions to markets around the world, including the food, automotive, textile, pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and more.

High standards for safety

At KMS, we pride ourselves in helping companies reduce their water usage and optimize efficiency to ultimately save money. To do this, we adhere to the strictest safety, environmental and quality-control standards. We are ISO 9001 certified to meet our customers' expectations for excellence and adherence to regulatory requirements. Partner with us, and leverage these strengths for the benefit of your business.

Focused on the technology of tomorrow

We believe in continually investing in advancing technology to drive our business forward and push the boundaries of what is possible. In the spirit of constant innovation, we have our own dedicated research and development facility at the heart of our corporate headquarters in Wilmington, Massachusetts. Here, we test the technology of tomorrow and put our products through their paces to improve our membrane formulations and process designs - so you can trust them to perform in operation.
